Turn On Your Light

This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine!

When I first received my Multiple Myeloma diagnosis, I decided it was time to go back to therapy. I have sought therapy in the past to help me deal with past childhood trauma and at that time...therapy saved my life! Now, as I am ACTUALLY in a fight for my life, I thought it was time to "check in" with a therapist again.

Fighting this battle is difficult and I have good days and bad days...who wouldn't! Finding out I have cancer and losing my ability to walk and care for myself literally overnight is a lot to deal with at times. Thank GOD I have way more good days then bad, but when the bad days come, I need help.

As I learned that my cancer had begun to reach a place in remission (Thanks to GOD and all my PRAYER WARRIORS!!!) where my stem cell transplant was being moved up by two months, I had to begin to prepare mentally and physically. First, I had to acknowledge (with help from my therapist) that I have been holding on to some negative energy for years and I have allowed it to eat away at my peace. I decided it was time to release this energy and free myself. But, doing this meant that I would have to let go of some significant relationships...for once I my life I had to choose ME FIRST! My health and life are depending on it.

For some reason, many of us believe that choosing ourselves first is a grave act of selfishness. We put everything and everyone before ourselves then we suffer in silence because we don't get our own needs met. We give and give and give and give! We sacrifice our own health, happiness, hopes and dreams because we don't want to hurt other people's feelings or we are afraid that people will judge us or look at us differently or just try to talk us out of things with negative talk! We must learn that self-LOVE is not selfish! God commands that we love our neighbors as we love ourselves. We must first love ourselves!

Let's make a commitment to ourselves to turn on the lights and shine a spotlight on the people and things that we are allowing to hold us back from the wonderful life that God has promised us. If you can't make these life changing decisions on your own, please seek the assistance of a therapist. There is such a stigma about mental health in this world that the only one getting the glory is the evil one! Don’t let anyone make you dim your light to make them feel more comfortable! Let them get some sunshades. TURN ON YOUR LIGHT!

We pray that this has blessed you in some way and hope that you share our stories with others who might be helped by our ability to tell our truth in love! We also encourage you to submit stories...you never know who will be helped!

Matthew 5:14-16

Peace be with YOU!

Our Deepest Fear By Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.

Your playing small Does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking So that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, As children do. We were born to make manifest The glory of God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us; It's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, Our presence automatically liberates others.
