An Attitude of Gratitude

Ask Miss Lisa (Love, Inspiration, Straight-talk, Activation)

If TODAY is THE day…

There are days when I truly struggle with my current situation. No one ever PLANS to be sick. It was my plan to work until I could not work anymore, because I loved what I was doing. My work had real meaning to me. Now my days consist of doctor visits and naps.

I could just sit around and feel sorry for myself and who could blame me, but what I have decided to do is be GRATEFUL for all the things I still have in my life! Before my cancer, I never had to worry about taking a shower or bending down to pick up something that I dropped on the floor or getting up to go to work in the mornings. It really is true that you don’t miss something until you don’t have it anymore.

When the neurologist told me that my spine is too damaged for them to do anything for me that really was a punch in the throat! I took it very hard because it means that I will be in this brace for the rest of my life, but what it also did was make me grateful that I am not paralyzed! I moved furniture with a broken back. I could have been paralyzed at any moment, but that is not what the LORD has chosen for me.

There are so many things that I just can’t do anymore, but I have decided to adopt AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE about the things I still get to do! I could be paralyzed but I am not! I could be sick in the hospital, but I am not! I could have become sick and been on a ventilator, but I did not! I could have passed away, BUT I DIDN'T! Tomorrow, I will celebrate my 56th birthday! PRAISE GOD!!!

Considering all these blessings, I have decided to remind myself daily of at least five things for which I am grateful. I would like to challenge you all to do the same thing. Bad things happen to good people all the time, but it is difficult to complain and feel bad about what you don’t have when you are grateful and THANKING GOD for everything you still do have. I could have had to face all of this alone, but I have many people in my life to remind me just how BLESSED I AM!

We pray that this has blessed you in some way and hope that you share our stories with others who might be helped by our ability to tell our truth in love! We also encourage you to submit stories...you never know who will be helped!

Matthew 5:14-16

Peace be with YOU!

Lisa
